The Sculptural Memorials and the Problematic of the Zero Angle
(Monuments of Basrah as a model)
Abstract
The current research is a study of the sculptural monument built in the city of Basra for the period between (2003-2009), as this study tends to read a very important problem represented by the occurrence of the monument at a zero angle for the recipient with which the degree of reading decreases to a large extent that disagrees with each other at that time the intentional value of the achievement (the monument). The first chapter included the research problem in terms of explaining the problem of the zero angle that occurs between the sculptural monument and the scenes, which makes the first questionable about what this work is, how it is read, and the purposes to which it is intended. Then came the goal of the research, which was followed by demarcating its boundaries and then defining its terms. As for the second chapter, it has been divided into four sections as follows: The first topic: the concept of response and reception to a sculptural monument. The second topic: the relationship of the sculptural monument to space. The third topic: The angle of vision and its effect on the viewer. The fourth topic was: the zero angle of the sculptural monument. Which was followed by the researcher in the third chapter, which included an analysis of the samples of the research sample, followed by the results of the research to conclude the research with sources. Among the findings of the research:
- The angle of view is the angle through which the viewer sees the monument if it is directly in front of it or with a certain angular deviation from its right or left ..., which determines the direction and location of the zero angle, so the angle of view is called the viewing angle relative to the viewer's view of the monument, and it is variable. By changing its location, because it is determined by the starting point of the ray of sight from the eye to the point of falling on the monument and by a straight line
- Some sculptural monuments have a viewing angle through which the problem of the zero angle is achieved, so that the object of the monument is not seen with it, and even is recognized by the viewer in a way that affects it aesthetically and designly, leading to the elimination of its sensory existence.
