Aesthetics of Digital Scenography in Contemporary Performance Art

Abstract

This research seeks to uncover the aesthetics of digital scenography in contemporary performance art and to identify its components in contemporary performance works. To achieve this, a descriptive-analytical approach was used for four performance works that were intentionally selected based on their use of digital scenography. The research results revealed the presence of aesthetics of digital scenography in contemporary performance art, distinguished by unique features through new artistic formations that differ from the usual triangular structural formation. The aesthetics of digital scenography and performance art are not subject to laws or standards. They are manifested in a form that combines organization and improvisation, real and illusory sensory aspects. Furthermore, there is an aesthetic dimension of time and space through narrative and kinetic sequences, along with a variety of dimensions in the artistic achievement. The aesthetics of digital scenography have been added to the performance arts. By combining sound, light, visual, and interactive effects with realistic forms, it has contributed to reducing time and effort and conveying meaning by providing a comprehensive impression of the performance space and its components, thus influencing the viewer. The aesthetics of digital scenography demonstrate the potential for combining it with many contemporary arts, as demonstrated in the current research, including performance art. The research reached several recommendations, most notably encouraging arts institutions to encourage local artists to exhibit and utilize digital scenography in their art, to develop awareness of its aesthetics, and to conduct research on the aesthetics of digital scenography in other arts, benefiting art students.
